A court in New Delhi on Monday extended the judicial custody of Shahid Yousuf, son of United Jihad Council (UJC) chief Syed Salahuddin, until March 7.
Family members of Yousuf alleged that his detention was being prolonged as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had failed to produce “anything substantial” against him.
“On 19th Jan, Judge O.P Saini had literally scolded NIA officials for failing to submit charge sheet despite more than three-month custody of Shahid yousuf. He had warned them to submit the charge sheet on Feb 5,” they said.
The family members said they were worried about the health and safety of Shahid in Tihar jail because of the “recent assault on Kashmiri prisoners there by jail authorities.”
Shahid was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on October 24 in an alleged funding case of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.
