Srinagar, May 15 : Amid a nationwide petrol crisis and a steep ?3 per litre hike in fuel prices, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Satish Sharma, on Friday asserted there is “no problem” regarding essential commodities, assuring citizens that the country remains in safe hands under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
“There is no issue. That is the fact — the country is in safe hands. Under PM Modi’s guidance at the Centre and CM Omar Abdullah’s stewardship in the UT, there is no problem,” Sharma told news agency when asked about the impact of fuel price hikes on food supplies.
His remarks come days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to citizens to reduce transport usage to ease fuel demand. The government has increased diesel and petrol prices by ?3 per litre, adding to inflationary pressure on essentials. However, Sharma stressed that the UT administration, with strong support from the Centre, is closely monitoring the supply chain.
The minister, who also holds the Transport portfolio, said upcoming administrative sessions will help ensure continuity in citizen outreach. He noted that certain matters had remained unaddressed for “60 wonderful months” but did not elaborate.
He reiterated that with PM Modi and CM Abdullah working in tandem, the Union Territory is on a path of stability and growth.
