New Delhi, Sept 5th : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah mounted pressure on the Centre over Jammu and Kashmir’s unresolved political and administrative issues, holding a crucial meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.
The Chief Minister strongly raised the demand for restoration of Statehood, besides seeking finalisation of the Transaction of Business Rules and rationalisation of the existing reservation structure.
The issues assume political significance as the elected government continues to push for greater administrative powers and restoration of the status J&K enjoyed before its reorganisation in August 2019.
Omar also discussed matters concerning public welfare, governance and development, conveying the J&K Government’s priorities to the Union Home Minister.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister further briefed Shah about the First International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the government’s efforts to project the region as a major cultural and tourism destination.
The meeting comes against the backdrop of the National Conference-led government’s repeated assertion that restoration of Statehood remains central to its political agenda.
