AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has proposed pre-poll pact in West Bengal to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee saying his party would help TMC defeat the BJP in the upcoming state assembly elections.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has proposed pre-poll pact in West Bengal to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee saying his party will help Trinamool Congress defeat the BJP in the upcoming state assembly elections.

Emboldened after winning five seats in Seemanchal region, a confident Owaisi announced that his party would contest Bengal assembly polls.

Owaisi’s statement comes after Mamata launched a veiled attack on AIMIM saying that ‘some outsiders’ will ‘harass and terrorize people’ and urged the people of the state to ‘resist the outsiders’.

Speaking to Times Now’s Tamal, TMC MP Saugata Roy claimed that AIMIM has been set by the saffron party to reduce votes-hare of TMC while Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that Owaisi’s party will aim at further polarizing society.

“But the state of West Bengal has been rejecting the politics of polarization and communalism since independence,” he told Times Now.

Chowdhury had earlier called AIMIM nothing but the B-team of the BJP, whose sole aim is to divide the Muslim votes and cause damage to the secular parties.

Alarmed by the entry of AIMIM in Bengal, the CPI(M) and the Congress, which has decided to fight the next assembly polls as alliance partners, held a two-hour-long meeting on Tuesday night to determine the strategy for the next assembly polls.

Both the parties are planning to outreach programme where they will reach out to the community leaders and eminent personalities from the minority community. They have also decided to conduct special outreach programme on the National Minorities Day on December 18, reported PTI.
