SRINAGAR 16 May : A casual labourer working with the Power Development Department (PDD) sustained an electric shock while working on an electric pole in the Sumlar area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Saturday, officials said.

The injured has been identified as Qaiser Ahmad Baba, son of Ghulam Rasool Baba, a resident of Sumlar, Bandipora, aged around 33 years.

According to officials, he was initially taken to Sub-District Hospital Bandipora following the incident and was later referred to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital Bemina, Srinagar, for specialised treatment.

Hospital sources said the patient was admitted after suffering an electric shock, and his condition is being closely monitored.

Reports said that Qaiser Ahmad Baba was engaged as a casual labourer with the PDD and received the shock while carrying out maintenance work on an electric pole in the area.

The incident has once again raised concerns over safety measures for field staff involved in power maintenance and repair operations. (KNT)
