Srinagar, Aug 26 : The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faced a setback in Shopian on Monday as two District Development Council (DDC) members resigned from the party and extended their support to former MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir.

DDC Chairperson Shopian Bilquees Bano and DDC Member Harmain Ab Rashid Lone submitted their resignations, citing the party’s failure to do justice to Aijaz Ahmad Mir, who had been working tirelessly for the party.

Bano said that she will support Mir, who is contesting the elections as an independent candidate from the Wachi (now Zainapora) constituency.

Lone also expressed his support for Mir, stating that the party’s inability to recognize Mir’s contributions led to his decision.

This development comes after Mir resigned from the PDP last week and is expected to file his nomination papers on Tuesday. Another DDC member from Shopian, Raja Waheed, had also quit the PDP to contest the election on an All India People’s United Democratic Party (AIP) ticket.
