Police organises Cybercrime Awareness Programme in Handwara

Handwara September 21 : In view of the surge in cyber related crimes and to generate awareness about such cyber crimes, Police in Handwara organised a Cyber Awareness Programme at Police Station Vilgam.

The awareness programme was chaired by SDPO Handwara besides, SHO PS  Vilgam and other officers were also present on the occasion. The awareness programme was attended by respectable citizens and youth of Vilgam area. They were briefed about various types of cyber threats/crimes such as identity theft, credit card fraud, data stealing, cyber stalking, pornography, OTP frauds etc.

Speaking on the occasion, the chairing officer advised the participants to adopt safe browsing habits to avoid suspicious websites while surfing the internet. He also appealed to the participants to not share OTPs or bank account details and passwords and to adopt precautions while conducting internet banking and online transactions. Participants were also cautioned against accepting friend requests from unknown persons or chatting with unknown persons on social media.

While appreciating the efforts of the police for conducting such programmes and also assured their full cooperation to police in tackling all types of crimes including cybercrime.
