Anantnag, Dec 12 (KNC): The Food Safety Department Anantnag has imposed a strict ban on the sale of PRIYAGOLD BUTTER DELITE biscuits (Batch No. E25KPO2FB) after laboratory tests confirmed the product to be unsafe for consumption.

According to the Designated Officer, Food Safety Anantnag as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, the action follows the sampling of the biscuit brand by the Food Safety Officer during routine market inspections.

The sample was sent to the National Food Laboratory, Ghaziabad, where analysts, in Report No. JK-665/DEC/25/786 dated 05-12-2025, detected sulphite levels exceeding the maximum permissible limits.

Officials stated that consuming food products with sulphite content above the approved threshold may pose health risks to consumers. “Manufacturing or selling unsafe food items is strictly prohibited under Section 3(1)(zz)(xi) of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006,” the order mentions.

Invoking powers under Section 36(3)(b) of the FSSA, Designated Officer Sheikh Zameer Ahmad has ordered an immediate prohibition on the sale of the said biscuit batch across the district of Anantnag until further notice. The department has advised traders, shopkeepers, and distributors to withdraw the product from shelves and ensure compliance. (KNC)
