Baramulla, Mar 10 : Authorities imposed restrictions under the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in two villages of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday to prevent communal tension and ensure peace during religious functions.
An order issued by District Magistrate Baramulla accessed news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) stated that Section 163 of the BNSS, 2023, would come into force in Mirgund and Mirchimar villages of Tehsil Singhpora from 8 PM on Tuesday to 9:30 PM on Wednesday.
The decision was based on a report by Senior Superintendent of Police, Baramulla, which highlighted a long-standing dispute between rival factions of the Shia community over the jurisdiction of a local Imam Bargah and Masjid.
Police apprehended that unlawful elements might exploit the congregations scheduled on the 21st of Ramzan, leading to a potential breach of peace.
“In order to maintain peace and tranquillity and to prevent any imminent danger to life and property,” the order said, all assemblies of four or more persons, processions, and the carrying of weapons have been banned in the area.
The order also prohibits the use of loudspeakers or any amplifying devices without prior permission from the district administration. (KNS).
