More than 150 households in this central Kashmir town were cut off after a link road connecting Gulshan Abad locality was dug up to check water seepage and left unattended by the concerned authorities.
The Public Health and Engineering (PHE) authorities on Thursday evening moved an earth-mover to dig up the road running parallel to a water reservoir to try and plug the leakage which has damaged a large portion of the road.
But after failing to fix the problem, the authorities concerned left the spot, leaving the road non-motorable.
Entire locality staged a protest today morning after finding out that they have been cut-off.
The locals blocked the traffic movement demanding the road should be repaired. “A patient from the locality was shifted to hospital on a cot as a large patch of the road has been damaged by the earth mover,” said one local, Ghulam Ahmad.
“For past many years, we have been pleading with the authorities to lay the water supply line underground but to no avail,” the locals said.
Superintendent Engineer Srinagar Circle, Showkat Jeelani said the road was dug up by the PHE department to try and fix the seepage problem.
“We have sent a senior official for spot inspection. We will macadamize it temporarily for now to make it motorable till the leakage problem is fixed,” he said.
