The projects, estimated at Rs 37.96 crore for Baramulla and Rs 34.43 crore for Rajouri, are designed to ensure scientific treatment of sewage before its discharge into natural water bodies.

Officials said the initiative will help curb water pollution, particularly in vulnerable local ecosystems, while significantly improving sanitation standards in both districts.

The upgraded systems are expected to enhance public health outcomes, improve hygiene conditions and contribute to better living environments for residents.

Authorities have described the approval as part of sustained efforts to modernise wastewater infrastructure and promote environmentally sustainable urban development across the region.
