Jammu, Feb 9 : Minister Satish Sharma on Monday strongly praised National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah, calling him a “statesman, secular and visionary leader,” and hinted at aligning himself with the party in the future.
Speaking to reporters outside the assembly, as per the news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), Sharma stated that strengthening the organization requires sacrifice and dedication. “If we have to build a strong cadre of the National Conference, it will need sacrifice. The organisation has to be strengthened wherever there are good people,” he said, adding that “Omar Abdullah’s leadership will prevail, particularly in Jammu province.”
Sharma asserted that the Congress would not betray Omar Abdullah. “Omar sahib is a great man. There will be no competition for him in the next 25 years in the country.
He is a statesman, secular and a visionary,” he remarked.
Reflecting on his political journey, the Minister said he owed his rise to Omar Abdullah’s support. “I was not even capable of becoming an MLA, but he made me a minister. Out of 1.5 crore people, he placed me among the top five,” Sharma stated.
While acknowledging his roots in Uttar Pradesh, Sharma affirmed that his “heart is with Omar sahib and the National Conference.” He also alleged that some Congress leaders with “questionable character” had cheated him in the past. “In response, I defeated 12 MLAs. It was not collusion; it was betrayal,” he added.
Sharma’s remarks are being viewed as politically significant amid ongoing developments within the ruling alliance in Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
