Srinagar, Apr 10 : The Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) has ordered the suspension of snowmobile operations in Gulmarg and Kongdori from April 13, citing the end of the winter season and declining snow conditions.

According to an official order issued by the GDA on April 9, the decision was taken to prevent environmental degradation and preserve the aesthetic character of the tourist destination.

The authority stated that snowmobile activities, permitted as a seasonal operation, cannot be continued beyond the prescribed period as it may adversely impact the fragile ecosystem of the area.

All registered operators have been directed to cease operations from the specified date and ensure the removal of snowmobiles from Kongdori after obtaining proper permission from the authorities.

The order further authorises the Enforcement Head of GDA to issue necessary passes for the transportation of snowmobiles, subject to submission of records to the office.(KNS)
