Kulgam, Apr 10 : Kulgam Police on Friday claimed to have arrested five drug peddlers, busted a forward-backward supply chain, and sealed a medical shop for violating norms on sale of Schedule H medicines.
A police spokesman said that during naka checking at Furrah New Bypass, a patrol party from Police Post Mir Bazar apprehended a suspect who tried to flee. Recoveries from him included 110 grams of charas powder-like substance, 2 grams of heroin-like substance and Rs 22,000 in cash. The accused was identified as Danish Khurshid, a resident of Redwani, Qoimoh. An FIR was registered at Qazigund police station.
In a separate operation on April 8, police at Akhran nabbed another individual and recovered 63.31 grams of charas and 2.03 grams of heroin from his possession. The accused, Faruk Ali, is a resident of JJ Colony Bawana, North-West Delhi, they said.
In a third case, acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted Abdul Qayoom Shah of Shastargam, Dooru Anantnag, near Kurigam Railway Bridge and recovered 109 grams of charas concealed in corn husk.
During further investigation of the last case, backward linkages were established. Following necessary warrants, searches were conducted in Sirhama, Anantnag, leading to the identification of two more persons — Mohd Iqbal Rather and Mukhtar Ahmad Wagay — from whom 1.212 kgs of charas was recovered, officials said.
In a coordinated drive with the Drug Department, Police Station Qaimoh inspected medical shops in the area for sale of Schedule H drugs. Several establishments were found flouting mandatory record-keeping norms. Action has been recommended for suspension of their licences, while RH Medical Store was sealed on the spot.
SSP Kulgam Anayat Ali Choudhary reiterated that strict action would continue against drug peddlers, and urged youth to stay away from drugs while appealing to the public to share information to eradicate the menace.
