Srinagar, June 24,: Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Professor Saifuddin Soz has said that the lynching of a Kashmir police officer, Mohammad Ayub Pandit, the other day at Jamia Masjid Srinagar, should not only attract severest condemnation, but also people of Kashmir should introspect and mourn the extreme intolerance and barbaric attitude shown by a group of people who professed Islam.
The heinous crime couldn’t have been committed by two or three persons, but a larger number. All must be identified and brought to justice immediately, within the knowledge of the people of Jammu and Kashmir State.
“I have some knowledge of Kashmir history and in our long years of subjugation, there is no parallel to the barbaric crime like lynching that was ever committed. These rowdy marauders have shown worst kind of intolerance by taking law into their own hands and committed this kind of crime inspite of the fact that the slain person belonged to the next locality. This barbaric act is a great challenge to Kashmiris who must go into deep thinking and sustained mourning and ensure a civilized behaviour by one and all. In a way Kashmiris have to rise to the occasion and reject the cult of violence, for all times to come.”
“I hope Mirwaiz Umer Farooq’s, condemnation of this barbaric act, might help the proceedings of the enquiry that the Govt. might institute into this crime against humanity so that marauders are brought to justice immediately,” he said.
