SRINAGAR: Srinagar Airport is set for a major infrastructure expansion, with authorities planning the construction of a new terminal building at an estimated cost of nearly Rs 1,000 crore in a significant boost to Kashmir’s air connectivity and passenger infrastructure.
The proposed expansion is aimed at increasing passenger handling capacity and modernizing facilities at one of the region’s busiest transport hubs, which has witnessed a steady rise in air traffic over recent years.
Officials said the new terminal project is expected to substantially improve passenger movement, operational efficiency, and overall airport infrastructure as Srinagar continues to witness growing tourist arrivals and increased flight operations.
The expansion assumes importance as Srinagar Airport has been operating under mounting pressure during peak travel seasons, particularly during the summer tourism period and winter disruptions affecting surface transport connectivity.
The proposed terminal is expected to include upgraded arrival and departure areas, enhanced security infrastructure, improved passenger amenities, and expanded operational space to accommodate future traffic growth.
The project is being viewed as part of a broader push to strengthen infrastructure in Jammu Kashmir and improve connectivity to the Valley.
Srinagar Airport serves as the primary air gateway to Kashmir and remains strategically important for tourism, business travel, and public movement in the region.
