After the completion of snow clearance operation, the strategic 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh highway is likely to thrown open to traffic today ahead of the normal time.

The road was closed in winter due to the accumulation of snow at Zojila.

Zojila on the Srinagar-Leh national highway, which is 11,516 feet above sea level, was closed on December 11 last year due to accumulation of snow

Men and machinery of the Border Roads Organization were deployed to complete the task in the shortest possible time.

DSP Traffic Rural Ganderbal, Faheem Ali Punjabi told news agency that only light motor vehicles will be allowed to ply on the highway at the first instance. He said that LMVs carrying essential supplies will move towards Leh from Srinagar today. (KNT)
