Srinagar, Feb 12 ; Srinagar Police on Thursday intensified its anti-narcotics campaign, using the platform of ‘Thana Diwas’ to seek public partnership in combating drug trafficking, as it held public outreach and legal awareness programmes across 11 locations in the district.
The initiative, part of the first phase of monthly outreach for February 2026, was held at eight Police Stations — Bemina, Rainawari, Women’s Police Station, Ahmadnagar, Harwan, Sangam, Shaheed Gunj, Lalbazar — and three Police Posts at Nehru Park, Qamarwari and Khonmoh.
Presiding officers, including supervisory and jurisdictional police officials, heard public grievances and recorded complaints ranging from illegal narcotics trade and sand mining mafia to traffic congestion and issues related to floating population. Matters pertaining to roads, sanitation, electricity and public health were documented for coordination with civil administration.
Officials utilised the occasion to generate awareness about the newly enacted criminal laws while making a strong pitch for community partnership in curbing the drug menace.
Citizens were urged to identify anti-national and anti-social elements and assist law enforcement in restoring public order.
“Thana Diwas is not merely a grievance redressal forum — it is a strategic tool to rebuild trust and mobilise community support in our fight against drugs,” a police officer said. “Policing cannot succeed without public cooperation.”
Community members, including Auqaf committees, traders, transporters, Panchayati Raj representatives, religious preachers and local elders, assured full support to the police in checking substance abuse and strengthening social cohesion.
The exercise underscores Srinagar Police’s focus on grassroots engagement and transparent policing, with similar outreach planned in the coming months across other police stations of the district. (KNS)
