New Delhi, February 2: The Supreme Court has stayed the eviction of nearly 250 Pakistan-born Dalit Hindu families residing in Majnu Ka Tila, underscoring that the grant of citizenship alone is insufficient without ensuring access to dignified and humane housing. Emphasising the constitutional right to life with dignity, the apex court observed that rehabilitation and basic living conditions must accompany any citizenship or legal recognition. The court has directed the government to file its response within four weeks on the issue of resettlement and safeguards for the affected families.
