According to police, a patrol party from Police Post General Bus Stand noticed a suspicious individual approaching from Prem Galli towards the bus stand. The man allegedly attempted to flee after spotting the police team but was swiftly apprehended.

During a search, police recovered heroin from his possession. The accused was identified as Arshad Ahmad Sofi, son of Abdul Ahad Sofi, a resident of Kanelwan.

Police have registered FIR No. 176/2026 under Sections 8 and 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Anantnag. An investigation has been launched to trace the source of the contraband and determine its intended destination.

Police said the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the district and reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance approach against the drug menace. Authorities also urged the public to share information related to drug peddling and other criminal activities.
