Srinagar, June 08 : Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) expresses serious concern over the distressing conditions reportedly being faced by pregnant women at Lal Ded Hospital (LD Hospital), Srinagar, one of the premier maternity healthcare institutions in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pregnancy and childbirth are among the most challenging phases in a woman’s life. A pregnant woman in labour is already enduring immense physical pain and emotional stress. It is therefore deeply concerning that many patients are allegedly being forced to share a single bed with another patient due to overcrowding and inadequate facilities.

Such conditions not only compromise patient dignity but also raise serious concerns about healthcare standards and patient welfare.

Our mothers and sisters deserve the highest level of care, respect, and comfort during this critical period. No woman should be made to suffer additional hardship while seeking medical assistance at a government healthcare institution.

We respectfully appeal to Hon’ble Health Minister Sakina Itoo, who herself understands the challenges and sensitivities faced by women, to personally visit LD Hospital and assess the ground realities. We believe that her direct intervention can help identify the shortcomings and ensure immediate corrective measures.

JKAP urges the Health Department to:Address the issue of overcrowding and bed shortages.

Strengthen infrastructure and patient care facilities.Ensure dignity, comfort, and quality treatment for all pregnant women.Increase manpower and resources wherever required.

The well-being of mothers is directly linked to the well-being of society. Ensuring safe, dignified, and accessible maternal healthcare must remain a top priority for the government.
