The CPI-M leader MY Tarigami on Sunday said International Women’s Day was celebration of power of women and their role in day-to-day life in a society.
In a statement Tarigami said women play a very significant role in overall development of any society and Kashmir was no exception.
“But what is ironic is that despite her equal share in the human development, she remains at mercy of men at least in our part of the world,” he said. “Unfortunately, women in many regions of Jammu and Kashmir are still facing the issues and challenges related to education, health, domestic violence, politics, declining sex ratio, dowry harassment, eve teasing, unequal wages and child labour,” he said.
He said it was essential to implement long standing multi-dimensional recommendations of Verma Committee for prevention of crimes against women and to ensure swift justice in all cases of sexual crimes against women.
