Srinagar, Feb 11 : Kulgam MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Wednesday raised concerns in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly over delays in medical services and outdated diagnostic equipment at government hospitals.

Speaking in the House, Tarigami highlighted that fellow legislator Bashir Ahmad Shah Veeri faced delays in undergoing an MRI due to non-functional machinery.

He noted that Veeri had to wait several days for the test and was eventually admitted to a private hospital after the government facility could not provide timely services.

“Veeri’s MRI could not be done for several days because the old system was not working.

Despite repeated waits, the situation did not improve, forcing him to seek treatment in a private hospital,” Tarigami said, adding that Veeri was earlier admitted to the Medical College of Jammu.

Tarigami said the incident reflects the urgent need to upgrade hospital equipment and improve diagnostic facilities in government hospitals to ensure timely medical care for legislators and the public alike.

He urged the government to address infrastructure gaps to prevent delays in essential medical tests and reduce dependence on private healthcare facilities.(KNS).
