Srinagar, Jun 5 : The Traffic Police of Jammu and Kashmir carried out a large-scale tree plantation drive at multiple locations across the Union Territory to mark World Environment Day, officials said.
The drive was initiated by Inspector General of Police (Traffic), M Suleman Choudhary, who planted a sapling inside the park at the Traffic Headquarters on M.A. Road here.
Speaking on the occasion, the IGP stressed the importance of environmental protection and called upon all personnel to contribute towards a cleaner and greener ecosystem.
Simultaneous plantation drives were conducted at over 25 locations, including Budgam, Qazigund, Kupwara, Pahalgam, Traffic City Office Poloview, Jawahar Nagar, Traffic HQ Narwal, Bhagwati Nagar, Poonch, Rajouri, Sunderbani, Samba, Jatwal, Bari Brahmana, Kathua, Billawar, Katra, Udhampur, Nashri, Jakhani, Batote, Chanderkote, Digdol, Ramsoo, Banihal, and Ramban, officials added.
Supervisory officers led the campaign, with personnel planting saplings at their respective locations and pledging to nurture them.
The initiative underscores the force’s commitment to environmental sustainability beyond its regular traffic management duties, the officials said, adding that participants resolved to work for preserving the ecological balance for future generations.
