In view of the prevailing weather advisory and forecasts of heavy rain and snowfall across Kashmir Valley, Traffic Police Rural Kashmir on Sunday issued fresh travel advisories, restricting movement on hilly roads and making anti-skid chains mandatory for vehicles.
An official advisory issued by the Traffic Police said that movement on hilly roads shall be allowed strictly as per prescribed cut-off timings and traffic advisories. Motorists have been advised to confirm travel timings from Traffic Police Control Room (TPCR) Kashmir before undertaking journeys on such routes.
The advisory further said that no vehicle without proper anti-skid equipment will be allowed on hilly roads including Tangmarg–Gulmarg, Kangan–Sonamarg and beyond, Sinthan–Kishtwar, Pahalgam road, Mughal Road, Kupwara border roads and Gurez–Bandipora road, subject to these roads remaining open for vehicular traffic. Only registered anti-skid chain vendors will be permitted to fix chains at designated locations to avoid traffic congestion at holding points.
Meanwhile, in a separate advisory, Traffic Police Rural Kashmir announced restrictions on tempo travellers, public service vehicles (PSVs) and vehicles with seating capacity of more than ten passengers from Tangmarg towards Gulmarg from January 5, 2026, till improvement in weather and road conditions.
As per the advisory, such vehicles will not be allowed beyond Tangmarg, and passengers will be required to de-board at designated holding or parking areas. Thereafter, passengers will be permitted to travel towards Gulmarg only in light motor vehicles fitted with proper anti-skid chains.
Traffic Police also reiterated that no vehicle without anti-skid chains will be allowed on the Tangmarg–Gulmarg road stretch till road conditions improve.
Traffic Police Rural Kashmir has appealed to commuters to cooperate and adhere strictly to the advisories in the interest of public safety.
