Srinagar, July 4: A delegation of the Tourist Trade Interest Guild (TTIG), led by its Chairman Zahoor Ahmad Karnai, called on the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, to discuss key issues concerning the tourism sector and submit recommendations aimed at accelerating its revival and ensuring sustainable long-term growth.

The delegation included Vice Chairman Bashir Karnai, Secretary General Farah Zargar, Mohd Akram Siah, and Mohd Shafi Wangnoo.

During the meeting, the TTIG delegation highlighted several challenges confronting tourism stakeholders and urged the Government to adopt timely measures to strengthen the sector. Among the key issues raised were:

* Airport Operations: The delegation requested the temporary reopening of the old airport terminal and related facilities to ensure uninterrupted tourist movement and reduce inconvenience until full airport operations are restored.

* Tourism Promotion: TTIG called for an intensified national and international promotional campaign, including roadshows, digital outreach, and marketing initiatives, to revive tourist arrivals and rebuild confidence among travellers and tour operators.

* Gulmarg Traffic Regulation: The delegation urged the Government to review the existing odd-even traffic rule at Gulmarg, stating that a more flexible approach would improve accessibility and enhance the overall visitor experience.

* Rail Tourism: Chairman Zahoor Ahmad Karnai proposed the introduction of a dedicated quota for foreign tourists on Vande Bharat and other trains operating between Jammu, Srinagar, and Katra in both directions. He also stressed the need to promote Jammu & Kashmir’s scenic railway corridor as a world-class travel experience through focused international publicity and tourism campaigns.

The Chief Minister gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured its members that the issues and constructive suggestions presented by the tourism fraternity would be examined sympathetically, with appropriate action taken wherever feasible.

Expressing gratitude, TTIG Chairman Zahoor Ahmad Karnai thanked the Chief Minister for his positive response and reaffirmed the Guild’s commitment to working closely with the Government and all stakeholders to strengthen Jammu & Kashmir’s position as one of India’s premier tourist destinations.
