1,222 foreigners among 3.89 lakh visitors
Srinagar, Apr 16: The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, Asia’s largest tulip garden located in the foothills of the Zabarwan Range, was closed for the general public on Thursday, witnessing a footfall of nearly 3.89 lakh visitors during its 32-day run.
Commencing the spring season in Kashmir, the famous garden was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on March 16.
According to details shared by Assistant Floriculture Officer In-charge Tulip Garden Srinagar, Imran Ahmad, approximately 3.89 lakh visitors visited the garden this year, including 1,222 foreigners. Among the visitors, around 1.57 lakh were locals and 2.24 lakh were domestic tourists. Approximately 7,000 visitors booked tickets through online mode.
The data reveals that around 3.27 lakh visitors were adults and 54,338 were children. The garden generated total revenue of Rs 3,66,43,504 (Rs 3.66 crore) this season, including Rs 7,64,104 through online ticketing.
Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that the garden has been closed for the general public as the tulip bloom is almost over. A total of 18 lakh tulip bulbs, besides one lakh spring flowers including daffodils, hyacinths, and roses, attracted visitors this year. Nearly 8 lakh tulip bulbs were brought from Holland.
This year, the Tulip Garden was opened almost ten days ahead of the previous year due to the early bloom of tulips. Last year, the footfall of visitors surpassed all previous records, with 8,55,125 lakh visitors in 2025 over a month-long period.
A notice issued earlier stated that the garden, which opened on March 16, 2026, shall be closed for the general public on April 16 evening. “As recommended by the Tulip Committee, the Tulip Garden Srinagar (Tulip Show-2026) which was opened to visitors on 16th of March, 2026 shall be closed for general public w.e.f 16.04.2026 (Evening),” the notice read.
Pertinently, the Tulip Garden in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir earned a spot in the World Book of Records (London) as Asia’s largest in 2023.
