Veteran actress Sumita Sanyal who played Renu in Anand is no more
It is indeed a sad day for Bengali and Hindi film industry. Veteran actress Sumita Sanyal passed away at the age of 71. The petite lady was a part of cinema since the sixties debuting with the Bengali film Khoka Babur Pratyabartan. She was born as Manjula in Darjeeling, Bengal Presidency, British India. In fact her name was changed to Suchorita for her debut flick but later filmmaker Kanak Mukhopadhyaya shortened it to Sumita. She has worked with Bollywood film actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Dilip Kumar and Rajesh Khanna. Sumita was part of Aashirwad, Anand, Mere Apne and Guddi. In Bengal, she did a film, Kuheli with Biswajit and leading actress Sandhya Roy. She was in Sagina Mahato with Dilip Kumar.
Sumita was active in theatre and the cultural activities in West Bengal. She was part of Ranga Sabha. The lady had been married to Subodh Roy and has a son. In Anand, she played the role of Renu for whom Bhaskar (Amitabh Bachchan) develops feelings. It is her most notable work in Bollywood. Stay tuned to Bollywoodlife for more updates….
