Srinagar, Apr 11 : Former Srinagar mayor Junaid Azim Mattu on Saturday extended support to the ‘Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan’, calling drug abuse the “most daunting challenge” facing the society today.

In a post on X, Junaid Mattu as per Kashmir News Service (KNS) said he strongly endorsed the message and spirit of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s communication on the anti-drug campaign.

The former mayor said the menace threatens youth, destabilises families and erodes the social fabric.

“This is not a moment for selective concern. This is a moment that demands collective awakening and action,” he said.

Mattu said the cause required rising above politics, ideology and individual differences.

“There can be no divisions when the future of an entire generation is at stake. Whether in government, public life, civil society or within our own homes, all of us share a responsibility,” he added.

He appreciated the LG’s commitment to addressing the crisis through a “Whole of Government” and “Jan Abhiyan” approach.

Mattu urged every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir to make the fight against drug abuse a people’s movement.

“Let this be a moment of unity. We owe it to our youth. We owe it to our future,” he said. (KNS)
