Srinagar, April 9 : Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said that every section of society must join the fight against drug abuse, while reviewing preparedness for a 100-day campaign under the ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan’ at a high-level meeting.

The campaign aims to address drug abuse across the Union Territory through awareness programmes and enforcement measures. The Lieutenant Governor will flag off a “Padyatra” from MA Stadium Jammu on April 11, followed by a similar programme in Srinagar in the first week of May.

He called for participation of students, youth, NCC, NSS, Scouts and Guides, volunteers, civil society groups, political parties, public representatives and the general public.

“Every section of society must join this fight against drug abuse,” the Lieutenant Governor said, adding that drug inflow into the UT is part of a wider network targeting youth.

He directed officials to continue drives against drug trafficking networks and stressed the policy of action against offenders while ensuring support for victims. “Do not target the innocent and do not spare the culprit. Identify victims and ensure their rehabilitation,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

The meeting reviewed the activity calendar prepared by departments for the campaign. UT and divisional level committees have been formed for implementation of the IEC plan.

The Lieutenant Governor also asked officials to make the campaign a public movement and include feedback from people. He said the public should be encouraged to report cases related to drug abuse.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, senior police and civil administration officials, including divisional commissioners, IGPs, deputy commissioners and SSPs.(KNS)
