Srinagar December 21 (KNS): Congress President Jammu and Kashmir and MLA Shalteng Tariq Hamid Karra on Sunday criticised the BJP over renaming the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme to G RAM G”, Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin).

Talking to media as per KNS correspondent, Karra said the BJP is under a delusion if it believes that removing Mahatma Gandhi’s name from official records can erase his philosophy. He said Mahatma Gandhi lives in the hearts of the people and cannot be removed by paperwork.

He said the Centre earlier funded the scheme fully but has now shifted it to a 60 40 funding pattern.

According to him, regions like Jammu and Kashmir lack resources to meet basic needs such as water, roads, and electricity and cannot afford to bear 40 percent of the cost.

Karra said the Congress party is holding protest across the country against what he termed as the dismantling of the scheme. He reiterated that the Congress stands with the poor and downtrodden.

He added that the party was holding a peaceful protest with no intention to disturb law and order but alleged that even peaceful demonstrations are not being allowed.(KNS)
