Srinagar, Sept 21: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today held a meeting with a team from the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) and the Commissioner/Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department, to review the preparation of the Master Plan for Ganderbal.

During the discussions, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of sustainable urban growth that balances development with ecological sensitivity. He highlighted key focus areas including sewerage and sanitation, flood management, transport systems, waste management, youth engagement, heritage conservation, and disaster preparedness.

Stressing the need for inclusive planning, Omar Abdullah said that urban development should serve as a tool for economic empowerment, enabling communities to thrive while preserving cultural identity and environmental safeguards.

The Chief Minister further underlined that the upcoming Master Plan must adopt a forward-looking approach, ensuring that Ganderbal evolves into a model town with modern infrastructure, resilience against disasters, and opportunities for its youth | Kashmir Pen
